The Problem With Using Popular Directory Scripts And Possible Solution

There are a lot of directory scripts available out there to choose from. Generally speaking, directory scripts can be classified into two types, by their functionality.

The first type, the oldest and my favorite once, are classic directory scripts. The most popular classical directory scripts, as you know, are phpLinkDirectory and Esyndicat.

The second type, of directory scripts are directory bid scripts. Currently, the dominant provider of these scripts is phpLinkBid.

Although there are many advantages to use the most popular directory scripts, they are also some disadvantages. There are two disadvantages that come to my mind when I think of starting my new directory with very popular directory scripts.

First of all, thousands of people use them and thus you directory loses it uniqueness, design and feature wise.

Second of all, there are many directories that have the same directory structure that Google might just recognize as duplicate content and thus ban from its databases.

So the only solution, in my opinion, to this problem would be to use alternative directory scripts. There are obviously tons of them. Some of them are IndexU, and SiteSift and so on.

I think that by using alternative directory scripts you make sure that your directory looks differently, has unique features and so on. This benefit of using alternative directory scripts is really important for a directory, since being unique is what really matters in the directory world.

So, today, I’ve decided to review less known and popular yet effective and efficient directory script. I hope that you will like it and I will get a chance to review other less popular directory scripts, for you to discover.

The script I am reviewing today is called cpLinks. It’s three year old established script. The script has two version currently available, one that’s called cpLinks and the other, which is cpDynaLinks. The difference between two scripts is that one script uses static HTML pages to display information, while the other uses Apache mod_rewrite techniques.

cpLinks
is a free directory script, that uses HTML pages to display information from SQL database. It has various features, starting from easy installation and integration to existing web site design to unique title, description and keywords for each page.

cpDynaLinks is also a free directory script, that uses Apache mod_rewrite techniques to display information from the database. It also has various features, starting from optimal browser capability to high quality administration panel.

In conclusion, I would like to say that a friendly team of professional crew behind cpLinks and cpDynaLinks are glad to help you if you have any troubles using their scripts. Furthermore, they are willing to install, customize and design the script for you to suite your needs and wants, absolutely for free if you contact them.
