SEOMeter.com is a website, which I have discovered recently when I was surfing the internet. I find this seo tool pretty useful since it unveils Google’s crawl rate. Now, I’ve decided to bring it to your attention and tell you what I honestly think about it.

First, let’s start off with the owner’s description of the service:

Free online SEO tools that allow webmasters to monitor Google’s crawl rate and cache history over time.

How does it work?
It tracks your website’s crawl rate by getting its cache from Google. (cache: yoursite.com) It’s worth mentioning that the service only measures Google’s crawl rate because only Google provides free access to this kind of information. Then it stores the information in its database and displays it when needed.

So what?
Well, crawl cycle can tell you a lot about a particular website. For example, the more often the website is crawled by Google:

The more important the website is to Google.

The more Google ‘trusts’ that website.

The faster a link will be recognized by Google.

What I like:

Cool, sleek web 2.0 design, which provides users with unique, long-lasting browsing experience.

The idea of including 20 most often crawled websites.

List of most often crawled web directories.

Nice graphs, which actually help you interpret the information better, unlike numbers.

Ability to compare sites, so you know where it’s more efficient and effective to advertise.

Company’s Blog, so you understand what’s going on at SEO Meter.

What I dislike:

Small database of sites, which I am sure will be expanded in the near future.

Small variety of crawling statistics banners (like 88×35 and 468×60).

Lack of ability to post crawling statistics graphs on a website (except a screenshot).

Small maximum number of websites to compare (only 3 websites).

In conclusion, I see that SEO Meter has gotten a bright future as webmasters become more and more reliable on search engine traffic. I really like it and will use it whenever I start any advertising campaign. Now, I want to know what you think about it. Do you like it?

Getting a website indexed by Google can be very frustrating, time consuming and difficult. This is so because nearly thousands of websites are created daily, and Google Bot is simply not strong and smart enough to index all the new websites instantly. The other reason why Google Bot doesn’t index new websites is because they seem to be valueless: not enough fresh content and link popularity.

Well, so who do you get your site indexed by Google easily and quickly? The answer is pretty easy and simple: get more fresh content and increase link popularity. Sounds too easy? Moreover, you think you’ve already done that but it still doesn’t work? It’s because you are not doing it right.

Now let’s do it right, and discuss each step in great detail:

Fresh Content: number one important rule for the content is the uniqueness, post’s length and relativism. First off, copying and pasting articles from other blogs won’t do the trick. Even worse, your site might be banned from Google forever due to the duplicate content. Second, your content should be update regularly - at least once a week. Hint: don’t post a lot of articles at once, introduce them overtime. Third, the length of articles should be reasonable - not too long and not too short. Try to keep your articles between 350 to 1000 words. Finally, post only related articles. Never ever, post any unrelated paid articles or reviews.

Link Popularity: so how do you plan to do it? Directories, link exchanges and so on? Well, it’s a good technique to increase your link popularity, but it’s not going to help you getting indexed by Google quickly. However, commenting on do-follow blogs helps your site get indexed quickly now days! Why? Well, it’s pretty simple. First, blogs are updated daily and thus Google indexes them regularly. Second, your link will be up, within 24 hours. Third, many blogs use various plugins which feature the latest and top commentators on the main page. This way you are getting free backlinks. Use this and this list of do-follow blogs do find the right blogs to comment on.

If you will follow these steps your site will be indexed by Google within a week. I’ve used this techinuque for a long-period of time and it works well every time. Go on try it! Tell me how long it takes for your sites do get indexed now, by commenting.

Authority links are crucial in getting good PageRank value as well as reasonable amount of SERPs. Authority links are generally defined as links, which encompass higher value than normal backlinks.

Generally speaking, authority links have high PageRank value and/or .edu or .gov domain extension. It’s much more easier and more convience to get good PR with authority links. So how do you get free .edu or .gov links?

Well, in short, it’s pretty simple. Where can someone get free backlinks? Ah, ha! You are thinking about blogs and forums, right? That’s right, one the ways to get free authority links is through blogs and forums, which have .edu and .gov domain extensions.

But how to find those blogs and forums? Google comes quite handy to help you. Just simply do the following easy searches:

“Any Keyword” “powered by wordpress” site:.edu

The identified search query has three important parts to it. First, include the keyword you are looking for. It’s wise to consider the niche of your website as a keyword. Second, enter the type of blogging software (such as MovableType, Pivot) or forum software (such as vBulletin, phpBB). Please remember that if you are looking for a forum enter forum software and do the same if you are looking for a blog. Third, fill in the domain extension you want to search for. (either .gov or .edu)

If you are not sure how to get free backlinks from blogs and forums then read this paragraph. One way to get free backlinks from a blog is by leaving comments. One way to get free backlinks from a forum is through personal profile and/or signiture.

Here are a few forums, I have just found to get you started:

Franklin & Marshall

Computer Science & Engineering Forums

Please share with us what you find by leaving comments.

Why do some people work more than others and deliver outstanding performance? How is the highest possible performance can be archived by everyone? The answer to the following questions is motivation.

A reason that explains or partially explains a character’s thoughts, feelings, actions, or behavior.

There are various reasons for the existence of motivation. Some of them are:

Need for Achievement: a desire to achieve something. Examples of this type of achievement are solving complex problems, making the key decisions in difficult situations and just to do something better.

Need for Power: a desire to have control, influence and power over people.

Need for Affiliation: a desire to expand friendship relationships.

Furthermore, motivation inspires one to be constantly inspired and work hard. The basic way to use motivation as one’s competitive advantage is through the use of goals. Goals are simply performance objectives, which direct someone’s actions. Goals establishment is an important aspect of the motivation process.

To get the most out of motivation and goals establishment use the following guidelines, when ever you are setting up your performance objectives:

Establish specific goals: The goals, which are more performance orientated rather than general ones, such as “Do your best”.

Develop good commitment: People tend to work harder for goals they believe in and commit to accomplish.

Clarify priorities: Make sure the importance of goals are established so important goals would be accomplished at the right time.

Reward accomplishments: Reward yourself for doing things right the first time, so it would stimulate yourself to do it again.

Establish difficult goals: Realistic, attainable and difficult goals tend to lead to higher performance than normal goals.

Please leave your thoughts and ideas in the comments.

As a matter of fact, new directories have a high failure rate - high enough that I am scared of. According to my personal research and calculations as many as 70 to 80 percent of new directories fail in their first quarter of existence. In fact, I know far more people who could not establish a profitable directory than a number of people who actually do.

The following mistakes are the most important common causes of directory failures:

Lack of experience: not having enough the know-how in order to run general or niche directory. (Most of the time niche directories appear to be much more successful than general directories)

Lack of expertise: not having enough essential knowledge of directory operations, including seo, category creation, design and user usability.

Lack of strategic leadership: not taking the time to set up performance objectives and to implement the strategy.

Poor financial control: not keeping track of advertising campaigns, measuring its performance, and a failure to account and control all other expenses.

Growing too quickly: lack of controlling expansion and addressing the right problems at the right time.

Insufficient commitment: not spending enough time running the directory and not meeting performance objectives.

Ethical failure: failing to act ethically and legally towards both customers and search engines.

I hope this article is going to help you understand the causes of your failure and ways to eliminate them. Please leave your thoughts and ideas by commenting.

Are you tired of using Google all the time? Your friends don’t suggest any trustworthy, useful, and powerful search engines? Don’t like recent PageRank update and want to boycott Google? If you’ve answered yes to the following questions then this post is specifically designed to satisfy your needs.

This post contains top eight search engines, where you should submit your site into. It’s worth mentioning that the list doesn’t contain any meta search engines and thus each search engine has its own database. So lets get started: (in no particular order)

Amfibi- General search engine which includes its own index of websites, a directory (provided by the Open Directory Project) and a meta search feature for searching multiple search engines at once.
Accoona - A smart search engine with creative name and a nice logo.

InfoTiger - Search engine with trustworthy collection of websites, organized into a well built directory.

Exalead - A global Internet search engine offering a novel way to preview results and refine image, video and text searches.

Mozdex - Uses open source search technologies for an open and fair index.

Entireweb - Makes searching easy with a user friendly search engine.

Mojeek - Well design search engine, which is not smart enough to provide meta tags.

I hope you are going to appreciate the list on this directory blog and use it for your site’s promotion since I’ve spent insane amount of time finding the search engines.

Yhay is a quality, human edited web directory, that’s aimed to collect all helpful web resources in one place. It is the only directory that I know of, which has only four letters in its domain name. Is not that amazing? I really like unique and brandable names like Yhay. I also admire the owner’s creativity and desire to have different and unique directory.

Furthermore, I dislike directory owners who follow [insert something cool here] directory.com techniques to create directory domain names. It simply seems to me that those owners don’t have enough creativity to come up with a better directory domain. By the way, you can read a good article on how to distinguish your directory with unique domain name here.

Yhay has a lot of useful mods and features, which obviously improve users’ and advertisers’ experience browsing and using the web resource. In fact, Yhay has more than twenty mods installed, according to the owner. I am pretty impressed with this fact since most of the directory owners buy directory script, install it, forget about it right away and hope to make some profit from it. Is not that foolish?

Some of the mods which I think should brought up to your attention, are: Today’s Listing, Featured Links on the main page and Current News mods. Today’s Listing mod is beneficial for both visitors and advertisers since users can see new additions on the directory quickly, while at the same time, advertisers can get the maximum exposure. The same can be said about Featured Links on the main page, which also motivates more paid submissions into the directory.

I like the Current News gadget as well, because it is very beneficial for two reasons. First of all, it delivers fresh content daily and thus search engines index the directory more often. Secondly, users keep coming back to read about the current news and issues that happen around the world.

I also like the directory’s design since it’s simple, very user friendly, and easy to use. In my opinion, the directory’s logo is very thought provoking. Moreover, the rocket symbol on the logo implies that Yhay will take your site’s rankings to the stars. In conclusion, I would like to say that Yhay is not like any other directory since it provides a wide range of articles.

Search engine optimization is a really important part of any successful website promotion. SEO is one of the best ways to promote a site because it’s one of the cheapest and one of the most effective ways of advertising.

This article is focusing on ten steps, which should be followed for ultimate search engine optimization. These ten steps are:

Be Patient. It’s really important to have patience when you are promoting your site. You know that websites don’t get popular overnight. It takes time for Google and other popular search engines to index a site and assign it a proper ranking. It might take as little as hours and as long as years. So don’t be obsessed with getting results quickly, they will come if you optimize your site and well and wait long enough.

Be Legitimate. Please be ethical and relay on your good manners when you promote your site. Don’t do what is not permitted by the search engines so you don’t get banned. Some things that you should not do are:

Keywords Stuffing

Clocking

Hidden Text

Doorway pages

Duplicate content

Use Meta Tags. Meta tags should be inserted into all web pages right before the promotion. Meta tags are used in order to inform the search engines what your site is about in a short period of time. Remember, it’s very important to create unique meta keywords and description for each and every page in order to get the maximum exposure.

Good quality content is and important part of both website maintaining and promotion processes. Make sure your site has unique content which is updated regularly. Search engines love fresh content so feed them with it occasionally and in return you will get the traffic exposure.

Once meta tags and content are created, your site’s sitemap should be submitted to Yahoo and Google. If your site doesn’t have a sitemap make sure that you get one soon since sitemaps are the vital part of SE optimization.

Build Related Backlink Relationships. Having a good amount of backlinks is also an important variable that determines your SEO score. Although it’s important to have a lot of backlinks, it’s more important to have related backlinks and quality backlinks. Quality backlinks are the ones who have a high PageRank. It’s worth noticing, that it’s more important to have one backlink form PR 5 domain then a hundred backlinks from a site, which has PR 0.

Make Use of Anchor Text. It’s not very useful to get backlinks with the anchor text that doesn’t suite you well. Whenever somebody is linking to you make sure that the link title is the keyword you are aiming for. Remember not to have the same anchor text as your url since it’s not very helpful and effective.

Use No Follow Attribute. The more outgoing links on your site are, the less one link is worth. So use no follow attribute if you want to link to a site but yet don’t want to lose your link value.

Monitor and analyze the results. It’s very important to monitor your results. Amylase the results so you can learn what works and what doesn’t. What you should try again and what you should forget about.

Do not Overdo it. Although it’s important to work hard promoting your site, don’t overdo it. Don’t put a lot of keywords in your description because it’s not going to turn out well. Don’t try not to manipulate search engines otherwise you might get banned. Always start small and follow all of these steps for successful search engine optimization.

iGuides is a premium general directory, which tries to create a unique comprehensive platform of useful web resources for the net users. It’s worth noticing that the owner of the resource defines his directory as:

The definitive source for a full collection of internet guides and web guides, iGuides.org offers the internet resources essential to a premium paid directory.

The directory clearly includes a number of positive key traits, which should be present in all modern directories. But the first and the most important trait that I have noticed is that all of the submitted websites have their own unique titles, and helpful descriptions.

What I mean is that the editor of the directory takes his time to review each site and writes unique title and description for each site that differs from the information in the meta tags.

In my opinion, this should be done by every directory owner to ensure the quality of his directory and directory’s unique content so the directory would not be banned for the duplicate information.

I also like the design of the directory. It’s very user friendly and it has good navigation system. For example, for the user comfort, sidebar of featured categories contains popular categories so a user would be able to find popular sites quickly. The fonts are the right size, and the colors are not too bright, and yet are used effectively to draw attention.

What I also like about the directory is that the editor submits quality resources there himself for free. In my opinion, everyone should do so, since without it any directory looks kind of dull, and creates a negative and wrong belief that it’s not very popular and thus is not worth submitting into.

iGudes is not only a standard directory, as you might have noticed already. It also offers a good collection of articles and how to guides. Its article directory covers a lot of general topics and is written well by professionals. Its how to guides is basically a collection of tips and tricks on any topic that interests you.

There are thousands of directories on the net, and everyday more and more directories are created. Unfortunately, while the number of directories increase, their quality and relevance dramatically decrease. Therefore it becomes harder and harder to discover new, unique and quality directories.

In this article, I will cover basic steps on how to find quality directories, and at the end of the article I will review the newest way to discover quality directories.

As some of you know, one of the most popular ways to discover new directories is to browse forums. Forums where directories are generally announced can be found here. But the problem with forums is that it’s not the most efficient way to find directories since you waste a tremendous amount of time hunting the good ones with no way to quickly tell what is or isn’t a quality directory to submit to.

Another popular way to find new directories is through Directory Critic. Most of you have heard about it and know how it ranks directories by user ratings, so further description of the service is unnecessary.

You can also use Directory Inbox, to discover new directories via your inbox. You can find more information about it here.

Finally, there is Directory Rate <http:>, it’s the newest, and I think one of the best ways to discover new directories, it hasn’t been talked about a lot as yet by the community so I think it’s worth giving a bit of information about it here.</http:>

So What is Directory Rate?

Directory Rate is a collection of directory lists, which are helpful for webmasters, SEOs and site promoters. Currently, it contains nearly 800 directories organized by comprehensive categorizes, including paid and niche categories, and ranked by DR (Directory Rate Strength), with the most popular category probably being the free directories category.

What Makes Directory Rate Unique?

Just like PR makes Google unique, DR makes Directory Rate unique, and all listed directories are sorted by DR. Moreover, DR helps you to save time by allowing you quickly spot only quality directories. Unlike a tool like Directory Critic that ranks directories by user ratings, and therefore the top directories listed are not necessarily the strongest, Directory Rate ranks its directories by their calculated DR and so gives you a much more accurate idea of what is likely to be a truly strong directory.

How Is DR Calculated?

According to the Directory Rate site, DR is calculated by many different metrics and factors but, probably with good reason, they don’t reveal much about the actual algorithm. However, from the information they do give along with my own thoughts, its probably a combination of a directory’s back links, PR, PS and SE friendly content that are used to calculate DR.

Conclusion

I like everything about Directory Rate except one thing, and that is that it’s currently impossible to find out a DR score without actually submitting your directory. I hope, sometime in the near future, that it will be possible to find out a DR score without submitting a directory as I feel many users, including myself, would find it very useful.

Overall, Directory Rate is a genuinely useful tool when it comes to helping you quickly find the right directories to submit your site to, and it’s certainly possible that their DR Strength score may become widely used by the industry in the future to determine a directory’s strength.
