I can say with confidence that one of the most important concepts in a directory design is a logo. Logo is one of the things that a visitor remembers when he visits your directory. Your logo can either make you proud or simply not. If you are using any default/free template on your directory, then the best way to make your directory appear more unique to visitors is to have good and unique logo.

Please also realize that logos which are listed here are not perfect for all directory templates. You need to figure out your self if a logo matches your directory template. Generally speaking, a logo matches a directory template if color schemes are the same, the size of the logo fits into directory design and your directory should look better not worse when you any add unique logo.
